I would like to welcome all participants to the Rotax Grand
Nationals in Norman Oklahoma. Please carefully read the following
information, it will make your event more enjoyable. I am sure this GN
will be no different than others in that many rumors regarding rules,
decisions, parts etc. will go around the pits. If you have any questions, please see proper event officials for correct information.
Most information covered here is published in 2009 'Rules Primer" or "2009 Technical Regulations".
There are a few new regulations I will cover first.
NEW -- All engines must have both TOP & BOTTOM SEALS, NO EXCPETIONS
Only engine Identity Cards presented with sealed engine will be recorded during declarations.
NEW-Micro & Mini Max only -- In all conditions side bodywork MAY
protrude one half inch outside plane passing through outer edge of rear
tires. Modifications of side bars (nerf bar) are discouraged, and will
be be reviewed on an individual basis. This is an effort to have less
wheel to wheel contact. ALL CONDITIONS -- defined as, dry or wet race conditions. This differs from previous years, it is important to remember!
NEW -- Clutch, all
classes, (except DD2) regardless of clutch stall test results,
excessive lubricants on friction or contact areas will be grounds for
exclusion from competitive elements of event.
NEW -- Carburetor, Idle Jet insert must be completely seated & tight in carburetor body.
NEW -- Weights, all weights must be safety wired. This means drilled & wired, wrapping is not acceptable.
Ok drivers & mechanics, now we will go over some rules new
this year, however by this time of the season you all should be
familiar with them.
Rear Protection -- All
classes must have "full coverage" rear protection. Definition of "Full
Coverage" inside half of each rear tire must have coverage. Either CIK
or "industry standard" rear bumpers are acceptable. Note- For 2010
USRMC will require CIK style rear protection systems. This may
influence your purchase at this time.
The next two rules will be very important, please understand
them fully. At the World Finals in LaConca Italy, these two rules
almost caught out TEAM USA.
CIK-2.5.3 In all conditions,
the rear protection must at no time protrude beyond the external plane
of the rear wheels. All conditions defined as "wet or dry" race
conditions.
CIK-2.7.4.1 "WET CONDITIONS" Side bodywork may not be located outside the plane passing through the outer edge of the rear tires.
Original Parts -- Only original Rotax Parts may be used unless specified otherwise in Technical publications.
Radiator --
Coolant, only clear water may be used. Tape if is used, must be fully
wrapped around radiator and over lapped, must not be removed while on
racing surface.
Official Practice -- Once official practice begins, only declared equipment may be used.
This means Kart chassis and engines. Any engine on track during
official practice must be under seal, and officially declared and
associated with chassis and driver.
Ok guys & gals, knowing these rules will get you through your GN
event with less stress. Remember, if you have any questions regarding
technical issues; please ask me before the event, not in post race Tech
Inspection. I would rather address issues before the race than DQ you
afterwards.
Best of Luck and Please have FUN!
