2009 Rotax Tech Update PDF Print E-mail

USRMC logoFor 2009 Rotax Max in the US will continue to follow CIK guidelines. RMC 2009 Rules Primer is must reading for all. Following are highlights contained in 2009 Primer.

For 2009 Grand Nationals "full coverage" rear bumpers will be required. For 2010 only CIK Rear Wheel Protection System ( CIK Rear Bumpers) will be accepted. This may be a consideration when purchasing new equipment.

Engine Seals - Dual Seals will be required at 2009 Grand Nationals.

Body Work - "Wet Conditions" Cik Rule 2.7.1.4 Side body work may not be located outside the plane passing through the outer edge of rear tires.

TIRES:
Rain Tire: For 2009 the new MOJO W2 wet tire will be required for all offical local, regional and national races.
DD2: For 2009 a new tire is required for DD2 class only. The D3 dry tire is new.

CIK rule 2.5.3 Rear Wheel Protection - In all conditions, the rear protection must at no time protrude beyond the external plane of the rear wheels.

The above rules are new to the US program and will be strictly enforced at Grand Nationals.

New Clutch for 2009 - For 2009 Rotax has introduced a new Steel clutch system. This "system" includes new steel balance shaft gears, which must be used with the steel clutch. You may still use the "old style" clutch with either plastic or steel balance shaft gears.

For Micro & Mini Max the new steel clutch will not be permitted, however use of either steel or plastic gears are permitted.

Mini Max Squish Test - Correction to 2009 RMax Challenge Rules - 2mm Tin Wire should be used for Mini Max squish verification not 3mm. 3mm tin wire should be used for only Micro Max .

Remember to read 2009 read RMax Challenge Rules and 2009 Rules Primer.

2008

The following updates are immediately applicable to the US National Rules Primer. New requirements are shown in bold font:

MiniMax class specific (add to read):

For clarity, all engine rules for the MiniMax class are referenced on the US Rules Primer. The excerpt at the ROTAX factory website containing MicroMax rules does NOT apply to MiniMax in USRMC.

Specifically, the squish band for MiniMax category will be measured using 2mm solder and the permissible intake restrictors for the category in the US are listed in the US Rules Primer.

MiniMax and MicroMax (change to read):

Tire sizes MOJO D2(dry) 4.5x10-5 front and rear, Bridgestone YJP or YKP (wet) 4.5x10-5 front and rear. Wet tire compound for Grand National is YKP only. Maximum mounted tire width is 145mm. Maximum circumference at any time is 32.25 inches, all compounds.

Tire circumference to be measured on tire centerline with a flat tape, track pickup removed with a rag or gloved hand. All karts must comply at latest by the time the last kart is measured after scales.

MicroMax class specific (add to read):

Exhaust packing must be unaltered, original, single matt with no more than 20% loss of original length due to burn back along the longitudinal axis. Matting is measured at its shortest length for this requirement.
